WHO’S LIFE WILL YOU HELP CHANGE?

All children deserve to have a place to call home. When you sponsor or give to Trees for Hope, you’re providing that place to call home for a child in need.

When 17-year-old Calvin* first entered the care of Allyson* and Thomas,* he was very shy and reserved. He often spoke quietly and mumbled, rarely looking people in the eyes. He had been in and out of foster homes for almost six years and saw drug addiction destroy his family. After being in foster care for roughly 2,000 days, he wasn’t interested in adoption. He just wanted to age out, go to college, and make a better life for himself.

“I told Calvin…even if you’re not adopted, this is your home,” Allyson shared.

Over time, Allyson and Thomas started to see a transformation in him. He got a job at Chick-fil-A where he flourished. He became a leader and even got an award last year! The most significant change is that he belongs to a family now . . . and that made all the difference in Calvin.

The turning point for Calvin was when a serious injury put him in the hospital. “At no point did we leave him alone in the hospital,” Allyson said. “He realized we would always be there for him.” Not long after the accident, Calvin told Thomas and Allyson he wanted to be a part of their family forever. Later this year, they will officially adopt Calvin.

When Calvin came into foster care, he not only had a warm bed, new clothes, and food on the
table—he found a place where he felt accepted, loved, and valued. He found a place to call
home forever.

Through the foster care ministry of Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes & Family Ministries, hundreds of children every year are provided a safe home, warm meals, loving foster parents, the opportunity to learn more about the God who loves them, and so much more. Providing this care would not be possible without the prayer, volunteer, and financial support received from friends and families all across Alabama.
